TOTE Main Terminal Expansion

The expansion and rebuilding of the TOTE (Totem Ocean Trailer Express) Terminal at the Port of Tacoma, includes the construction of seven new structures and additions, and remodeling of four existing buildings on a very long and narrow site. The design solution was to create an industrial "family" of structures, establishing a consistent language of forms, materials, colors, and common detailing. The architecture seeks to achieve crisply detailed, durable, colorful and economical structures with an honest, industrial character. The project required extensive coordination of phases to ensure Tote's operations remained functioning throughout the construction period.
