The central focus of this project was to add classroom space, and to reconfigure a poorly organized 1960's school providing a new identity, entry, and a secure, functional floor plan. The design solution replaces a parking lot between classroom wings with a green, pedestrian entry court. Visitors are greeted by a new office and library flanking a central circulation spine which functions as a gallery for the student's artwork. The gallery is a tall, day-lit space which intersects with major clerestories over the office and library. The wood, post and beam structure and all building systems are left exposed and become part of the daily educational experience. The project also provides extensive renovation and upgrades along with associated site work.
