Supporting Essential Operations

Designed to serve more than 80 personnel and over 35 maintenance vehicles, the facility houses the Track, Facilities, and Power Departments responsible for maintaining the light rail system. Administrative offices for Maintenance of Way and Police staff are integrated alongside fabrication areas, parts storage, training rooms, and locker facilities, bringing critical functions together in one coordinated environment.

By consolidating operational needs into a purpose built setting, the project enhances efficiency, safety, and collaboration across departments while strengthening Sound Transit’s ability to serve a growing ridership.

A Strategic Campus Addition

Sited within an active transit operations campus during its construction, the new facility was carefully planned to complement existing infrastructure while improving overall site functionality. Delivered through a competitive Design Build process in partnership with FORMA Construction, the project reflects a shared commitment to disciplined coordination and execution within an operational setting.

Design Approach

Built for Performance and Durability

The architecture prioritizes long term performance, resilience, and clarity of use. Industrial workspaces are designed for durability and adaptability, supporting evolving maintenance technologies and operational demands. At the same time, staff areas are organized to provide clear circulation, natural light, and functional comfort for daily tasks.

Achieving LEED Silver certification, the facility integrates sustainable strategies that reduce resource consumption and operational costs while promoting occupant wellbeing. These measures reinforce Sound Transit’s broader environmental commitments and support responsible stewardship of public investment.
